Escalates probe after crashes into emergency vehicles.
On Thursday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that it was upgrading its preliminary evaluation of Tesla vehicles into a full probe of their autopilot technology. NHTSA said the upgrade is “to extend the existing crash analysis, evaluate additional data sets, perform vehicle evaluations, and to explore the degree to which Autopilot and associated Tesla systems may exacerbate human factors or behavioral safety risks by undermining the effectiveness of the driver’s supervision.”
The agency initially opened the evaluation in August of last year after roughly a dozen Tesla vehicles crashed into stationary emergency vehicles. The probe will open an engineering analysis of the technologies present in 830,000 Tesla vehicles, which could lead to a recall if their findings deem it necessary.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the safety officials in the Transportation Department as they investigate the autopilot technology.
- For the NHTSA to gather and accurately assess the circumstances and data to create greater safety on the road.
